The American Dream Not Ending Perfectly By Lorraine...

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, it s one of her realistic masterpieces. The play expresses an African American family stand out in their respective to chase the American dream by experiencing contradictions and conflicts. Although in the play, the American dream not ending perfectly, the dramatis personae in the play, particularly mother Lena Younger, did not show any improvement by moving into a white neighborhood. To have a better understanding of Lena, I am going to interpret her through exploring her physical, spiritual and social space, to understand the perplexities and helplessness of this seemingly strong mother. Lena s physical space is cramped and oppressive. The play had begun with a detailed description of the department that Lena lived in. Living room, kitchen, and decoration are all stand out, like a person suffered in grievances, it talked and endured everything. Fatigue, the entire apartment gives a feeling of tiredness, overwhelmed. The furniture has been carefully selected because been used too long and appeared weary; the ornaments were trying to extrude out the couch by going layer by layer; a chair used to block the broken mat; the sofa was desperately to display its own dilapidated parts openly. Fatigue is the main tone of the apartment, as what Lena lived in, as what the irrepressible life brings her mental and physical fatigue.
